| So
picture the scene- you’re standing in the queue for the toilets at
the RDS having spent the past five hours on a coach drinking beer. Nothing
is going to stop you from having a much needed piss. .. Or is it? If anything, it’s going to be the sounds of Turbonegro playing City Of Satan as they take the stage in Dublin on a summer’s night. You rush into the arena, only to find people seemingly not caring about the band playing in front of them. Turbonegro rock. For a support band, they put on a terrific show. Hank Von Helvete prances about in thigh high brown leather boots and a furry cod piece, while the rest of the band are attired in sailor suits and more- kind of like a demented Norwegian Village People. The crowd don’t seem particularly impressed, but Hairmetalireland was jumping up and down; especially during Blow Me Like The Wind. What other band is going to write a line like ‘If I ran for election, would you support my erection?’ Genius. Other highlights were All My Friends Are Dead, and Sell Your Body To The Night… or was it Wipe It Til’ It Bleeds? We can’t remember which of those last two songs they played (remember five hours on a coach drinking beer), but rest assured whichever one it was, it was fantastic. They need to come back here to play, and fast. Where else are you going to see a band that has a cannon blowing out pieces of gold tinsel? Or a frontman who says he came to Ireland to get "a piece of chip" and makes jokes about the potato famine? This is easily one of the most enjoyable bands I have ever seen live, and it’s a shame that the Iron Maiden crowd just didn’t seem to ‘get’ them. At least Turbonegro put their all into their performance, unlike Marilyn Manson, who looked bored, and Iron Maiden, who played a ridiculously short set. The only bad thing about this band is how under-appreciated they are. All kneel and bow down at the altar of Turbonegro. Suzie |
