Vaughn

Harv- Anyone who is familiar with ones of Belfast's best known tribute acts 'Rock of Ages' will recognise the members of 'Harv'. However under the guise of Harv the band play only original material. Vocalist Harv has undoubtedly a great voice and is a entertaining front-man. The rest of the band are also experienced musicians and playing in 'Rock of ages' regularly ensures that their live show is polished. However, although their set started out promising with a good heavy rock sound, I found some of their material to be too chorus heavy and at times a little repetitive.

'Crying in the rain' (not the Whitesnake cover) was by far the best song and went down well with the crowd, along with 'Rock on through the night'. Attention seemed to wane from the band towards the end of their set, although everyone did enjoy the banter of singing Happy Birthday to Harv, who was 36... again!!

Can't deny that these guys know their stuff and from past experience know that 'Rock of ages' always provide the background to a good night out, however feel that their original material could do with a little more work.

Vaughn - Great to see Danny Vaughn back in Belfast, he is a fantastic entertainer and superb vocalist and it does not matter whether he plays with Tyketto, Vaughn or as a solo artist, the crowd always loves him.

Danny Vaughn seems like a truly lovely man and his sincerity and humbleness towards the crowd never ceases to amaze me. Both he and the rest of his band really seemed to enjoy themselves which is always nice to see.

And what about the band?? Made up of Pat Heath - guitar, Tony Marshall - guitar, Steve McKenna - bass and Lee Morris - drums, each and everyone of them was a fantastic musician who put their whole heart into their performance.

The set was made up of songs spanning through Danny's career with Tyketto, Waysted, Flesh and Blood and of course Vaughn. It was a fantastic mixture of tracks and there was numerous highlights.

For me the best songs of the night were 'Is that all there is?', 'Meet me in the Night' and 'How the west was won'. The performance of 'Haunted' was also memorable. As usual crowd participation was high and everyone enjoyed singing along with Danny, as they had when he played with 'Tyketto' in 2004.

'Heaven tonight' was fantastic and a real winner with the crowd. 'Feel the power' came across as unbelievably heavy and as with all the songs of the night both the playing and the sound was perfect.

The really was never going to be any competition for the final song of the night... Tyketto's biggest hit 'Forever Young' sent the whole crowd, including HMI, crazy and it was delivered, once again, perfectly.

Danny has a great rapport with the crowd and was able to chat away to us whilst the snare drum was being fixed, telling us about his move to Ireland and his 'problems' trying to get through to Irish imagration, which is only open 6 hours a week!!! Like I previously said, he is sincere and everyone was genuinely listening to what he had to say.

Hopefully the reception he receives on each visit will ensure that Danny will continue to return to Belfast, and if you have not seen him yet... why?? You are missing out on one of the greatest singers and performer's ever!!!
