Nice
N Sleezy
- As usual the lads were dressed to the nines to night as
they appeared on stage before Van Hail'n. We were treated to a great show
by the always enthusiastic Nice N Sleezy. The sound was fantastic and
the guys played an unbelievably tight set. They played 4 covers; Motley
Crue -All in the name of, Faster Pussycat - Bathroom wall, Poison - Talk
to dirty to me and then finished up unexpectedly with a blinding cover
of The Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant.
All of these songs were mixed up with Nice N Sleezy's own tracks; Rock
n roll Addiction, 1000 miles away and Dangerously Close to love.
The guys are really beginning to come into their own and if they can repeat
tonight show in the future, I for one wont have any complaints.
Van Hail'n - Despite a disappointing lack
of spandex and mid air splits (!!!) Van Hail'n put on a very impressive
show. The lighting and pyrotechnics worked well to create the right atmosphere
and get the crowd in the right mood to appreciate the classic Van Halen
songs we were all about to here.
It truly was the best of both eras as the band played an excellent mixture
of Van Halen songs. Highlights for me included 'Running with the Devil'
and 'Why can't this be love', the latter of which sent the crowd mad.
It was great to see so many people up dancing to tracks like 'Ain't talking
about love', 'Mean Streets' and 'Somebody get me a Doctor'.
I was staggered to discover that this was the bands first show, as they
played confidently, and with the exception of a few problems with the
backing tracks, incredibly well. I felt the drumming in particular deserves
a mention. 'And the cradle will rock' was a thumping powerful number that
shook every wall in the Rosetta.
'DLR/Sammy' had a very powerful voice which resonated more like Hagars
than DLR, this especially came to light when the band played Sammy Hagars
'I can't drive 55'.
Not being a fan of lengthy in between song banter from any band, I would
have to say that I wouldn't mind if the guys cut that down a wee bit,
crowd participation is important but just be sure not to get carried away.
Of course what Van Halen tribute would be complete without
the classic from 1984 'Jump', and while the crowd was reeling from the
impact of that, they then launched into the Van Halen cover of the Kinks
'You really got me'. Great stuff!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Van Hail'n and I imagine if that's what they are
like on their first outing, they can only go from strength to strength
as they iron out a few 'teething problems'.
8/10
