Vikki
Van Zant and the Flesh Mechanics... what a name!!! And what a demo!!
When it arrived i put it on and decided to listen to whilst i took my
long suffering dog out for a walk.
There are three tracks on this demo and every one is an instant like.
'Sitting in the dirt' is a fast paced sing a long classic and I can guarantee
that ever you ever see these guys live you will be up headbanging and
failing around the floor like something demented. Vikki himself has a
voice that sounds as though has smoked 100 marlboro reds and quenched
his thirst with a nice bottle jack, it's rough, gravelly and I find it
very appealing.
The guitars on all the songs are loud, fast paced, wailing 80's style
riffs with a dirty muddy edge to them and provide the perfect background
to Vikki's vocals.
'Up in sin' is another great track (love the cowbell, always good in my
books) and again the guitars really come into their own along with the
great thumping bass lines. Love the reprise in the middle with the guitar
and 'lets here it from the freak' mini bass solo. Great backing vocals
on this one and again it had me singing along by the end.
'Get it on' is the last track on the CD which reminded me of a dirtier,
harder and faster Velvet Revolver and going by the vocals towards the
end i would say Vikki's throat was nearly bleeding by the time it was
recorded. It doesn't have the same power as the other two but its a good
enough song.
By the end of the CD i was no longer wearily trudging along with the dog,
no I was skipping, kinda dancing, singing along and even headbanging at
times ... any wonder i got some funny looks.
3 songs... too short, we want more from these guys.
