Vanity Blvd

Vanity Blvd. formed over a year ago and are yet another Swedish rock band who have been heavily influenced by the likes of Motley Crue and the LA glam scene.
Where Vanity differ slightly is the fact that they are comprised of two men and two women, one of whom sings lead vocals. The band is made up of Cindi on vocals, Roxxy on bass, Frekko on drums and Traci Trexx on guitars.

Summer Teaze is a good opener; vocalist Cindi has a decent voice (none of this operatic stuff) and the rest of the band sound great too. Vanity Blvd. seem to have a knack for writing a mean chorus, and following track Sweet Saturdaynite is no exception, with your typical lyrics about partying and rock n’ roll.

Come Dance With Me is the (obligatory?!) ballad on the demo- for some bizarre reason (perhaps the more bluesy tone of the song), it reminded me of 1987-era Whitesnake, especially the verses, which can only be a good thing.

Private Hell is probably my favourite track. It sounds like something straight out of a Lita Ford record, with a typical ‘80’s style big chorus and screeching guitar solo.
The same could be said of Dirty Rat (Scratch Like A Cat.) Again, it’s a good song, but maybe sounds a little too similar- while every song on this demo has a chorus that is undeniably catchy, sometimes the verses can sound quite samey, with not much distinction between some of them.

Overall, however, I was quite impressed with this demo. If they had been around in the 1980’s, I’m sure they could have been successful, because they have all the singalong choruses and sleazy guitars that typified rock from that era.
Female-fronted bands aren’t something I would particularly listen to on a regular basis, but Vanity Blvd. might convince me to check other bands like this out.
