The Erotics
Rock N Roll Killing Machine
2005
Trash Planet Music/BMI

Mike Trash Vox), Billy Belaire (Bass/Backup Vox) and Johnny Riott (Drums/Percussion) are the trio of musicians who make up The Erotics, and Rock N Roll Killing Machine is their fourth release, following Born To Destroy, 21st Century SOB, and All That Glitters Is Dead.

Rock N Roll Killing Machine kicks off the record in fine style, with Mike Trash singing sleazy, dirty lyrics about ‘rock n’ roll sacrifice’ and ‘rock and roll saving us all tonight.’

I Like It The Way U Hate Me not only is a great title, but it’s also a great song. The guitars rock and I like the whole ‘fuck you’ sentiment of the song, while Drop The Bomb again combines glam, metal and punk with great results.

Drink, Fight, Fuck (Kick-Ass Version) is my favourite song easily. The three words in the song’s title are shouted throughout the chorus. Imagine listening to that in a club with a glass of Jack in your hand, making yourself hoarse as you sing along! It is reprised at the end with Drink, Fight, Fuck (Kiss-Ass version)- which is basically the same song without the swearing. I don’t really get why they included a censored version- at seven songs this is already a short record, and an entirely different song as an album closer would have been better, I feel.

Only A Fool starts off slightly LA Guns-ish and goes into a bluesy power ballad. I like it, but perhaps Mike Trash’s voice isn’t quite suitable for this type of song.

The band had previously covered Motley Crue’s Public Enemy #1, and their cover of choice on this record is WASP’s I Wanna Be Somebody. It sounds strange with its quicker pace, and without the screeching of Blackie Lawless, but it’s still a pretty good cover version. It would sound fantastic live, but it did make me want to go and listen to the original instead!

Overall I really enjoyed Rock N Roll Killing Machine and it’s something I will be listening to a lot. It’s definitely a record that gets better every time you listen to it, and if you like your lyrics to be all about rock and roll, and your choruses to be huge singalongs, then this is for you.

The Erotics play Nottingham’s Junktion 7 on the 6th of May, and my advice would be go check them out!
