Strutter
Cruel Addiction

Chris Slade, Andy Fowler, Jack McBride and Rexx make up Spain’s Strutter, and due to a few changes in line-up, this is their first EP since forming in 2002.
Upon viewing the photo on the back of this CD, I was really looking forward to listening to it- it shows a table bearing all the hallmarks of an ‘80’s-type metalhead… an empty Jack Daniel’s bottle, an overflowing ashtray, a silver scarf, and a bandana.

Snakebite kicks off Cruel Addiction, and is a punky rock song with a shouted chorus. While vocalist Chris Slade’s voice may not be particularly outstanding, and at times it seems to overbear the rest of the band, his hoarse, croaky vocals work with this kind of material.

Nasty Idols has a shouted chorus of ‘Sex, drugs, and rock n’roll’- basically summing up what all the songs appear to be about; and for a band like Strutter, there really is no more apt subjects than these.

Silver Rose is a fast paced track with a nice slower interlude, and the thudding bass during this part is my favourite part of the song, along with the guitar solo.

Closing track Electric Child is easily the best song on the EP. It has the best tune and in my opinion, is the one with the most promise. A good way to close the EP.

Overall the songs are quite raw and messy and perhaps not to the standard I expected, and at times the rest of the band aren’t loud enough in comparison to the vocals; however there was just something very endearing about them, and I couldn’t help but like it. There’s no doubting that Strutter are sleazy to the core, so we can forgive them for being a little sloppy.
