The Science Fiction Idols
are from Pittsburgh, PA and claim to be the most raucous rock band in
the state.
The line -up is made up the excellent duel lead
vocal/lead guitar's of Gary Strutt and Bobby La Monde, bass guitar played
by Harrison Dray and Angel O on drums. It was great to see that the band
were heavily involved with every aspect of the album including the production
(which can not faulted).
It is clear that these guys are all excellent musicians but I have to
say that i especially like the twin vocals as it gives all the songs particularly
'My Little demon' and '9.16... I'm a time bomb' a certain fullness that
really makes them stand out.
The 11 track album kicks of with the bubblegum, sing-a-long rock of 'I
want you to lie' which, if there was any justice in the world should already
be a massive hit as never has a song been more suitable for radio play.
Its catchy chorus makes it irresistible and again the twin vocals really
make it something special.
'Pissed you In York' makes the most of the talents of Angel on drums as
it starts and I have to say I adore the hand claps throughout the song,
you can just imagine the fun had by a crowd when this is played live.
I love the guitars on 'Bag O' Spiders' the Idols again making the most
of the duel lead guitars. A further example of the upbeat catchy style
found on the rest of the album.
We finish with my personal favourite 'Hey Little Demon' and its easy for
me to say why its my favourite.. the honky tonk piano, it's fantastic
and it reinforced with me that whilst The Science Fiction Idols influences
of The New York Dolls, Cheap Trick and Hanoi Rocks are all very clear,
they are not afraid to put their own stamp on the music and at times look
outside the box.
