Killin' Zoe
'New Killer Reaction'
2006
(Demo)

The thing that is most evident when listening to the Killin' Zoe CD is that these guys are clearly more influenced by 70's bands such as the New York Dolls, rather than the likes of Motley Crue and Poison. At times a very English punk influence, like Strangler's, is evident too.

'Shakedown' is a face paced song to start the CD off with and has some very catchy guitar riffs that set of Wez's trashy, drawling voice very well.

'Face in' again has catchy guitars riff and I was pleased to hear the the bass lines were more audible on this track as they tended to be overshadowed on the first song.

During the third track 'Saturday Night' I feel that everything fits together well and it is the strongest song on the album. It has an excellent chorus which is very reminiscent of the 70's glam scene that i have already mentioned. The chunky bass lines work well with the wailing guitars, but unfortunately like the rest of the CD i feel that the production has let the drums down a little in places.

The guys take things down a bit for the last track 'Going Down' a sleazy little number that is a great way to end the CD and has great guitars throughout, screeching in the background to Wez's vocals.

Overall this CD is a good solid release and for all you New York Dolls fans Killin' Zoe are the band for you. Shame that the production let's this particular release down in places but the skillful playing is still evident and Wez's vocals would belong right at home in CBGB's.
