Kick N Scream

Kick N Scream are a band that are certainly full of plenty of youthful enthusiasm. All of the songs on this 4-track demo are catchy, kind of like a Pretty Boy Floyd for the year 2006. Its unfortunate however that due to the poor production and recording at times the drums and guitar riffs are lost, drowned out by the vocals.

However all is not lost, yes at times I did strain to hear anything other than the vocals but clearly vocalist and bass player Gabz can write a fantastic song.

Despite the poor quality recording, Kick n Scream are a band whose music I find incredibly appealing. ‘Pretoria’ the first track on the demo has great guitar and bass lines and a fantastic chorus with a lovely melody. There is also a great guitar solo that displays the talents of Kick n Screams two guitarists, PP Piso and Six String Shredda!!!

’Shallow Grave’ is a heavier track and it’s a pity about the guitars cause if they were just a bit louder the powerful hooks would sound fantastic.

The ballad of the demo ‘The final breath' has once again another lovely melody, the acoustic guitars giving a big Bon Jovi ballad feel to the whole song.

However for me the best track is the mighty ‘Steamroller’. I especially love the line ‘Bring me more metal, bring me more beer’. What a great rock n roll lyric!!!

I am disappointed that due to the poor sound quality and production of this CD I can not justify giving it a better score. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on Kick N Scream as I think they are a great band, with great songs who have have unfortunately been let down on this demo by
something that can hopefully be easily corrected for future releases.
