Michael
and co are back with the almighty 17 track follow up to 2003's 'Twelve
Shots on the Rocks'. Hanoi Rocks, despite numerous line-up changes and
tragic events through their career, this is a band that continue to produce
solid records and fly the flag for hairmetal as though it was still 1980.
'Another Hostile takeover' is an album that does not immediately grab
you attention, instead it slowly grows on you and after a few listens
you will find that track's such as 'You make the earth move' and 'No compromise,
no regrets' stand out as real gems on the album.
The band seem to experiment with new ideas and styles on this album, some
work, some don't. That may sound a bit harsh, but when listening to songs
like 'Reggae Rocker' the bizarre mix of reggae beats and rock just sounds
like pointless noise o me.
There are some emotive and powerful ballads on the album which capture
your attention with their powerful lyrics and beautiful melodies. 'Center
of my universe' and 'Million miles away' are the best examples.
I feel that if the tracks on this album had have been a little more carefully
chosen and some of the weaker ones cut, Hanoi Rocks may have had an album
on their hands that would hark back to the 80's a some of the unforgettable
releases that the bands have had.
However I can't ignore the tracks such as 'Talk to the hand', 'Love' and
the previously mentioned 'Reggae Rocker'. For the die hard Hanoi Rocks
fan only.
