Bad Reputation

Glyder are a band that play good old fashioned stripped down Rock n Roll. This is there debut album and the 10 tracks on it show some writing and musicianship beyond their years (they have an average age of 22). They sound like the old school rock bands of the 70's, think Led Zeppelin, Free and yes Ireland's own Thin Lizzy.

It is however the Thin Lizzy influence that stands out the most for me. In reading the bands bio on their website I noted that all of the members cite, Thin Lizzy as one of their biggest influences and that comes shining though on the CD. The second track 'PUP' in particular has a very Thin Lizzy sound to the guitars.

'Colour of money' and 'Saving Face' are certainly heavier and faster than some of the other tracks on the album. I have to say that I enjoy the contrast between the heavier tracks and others such as 'Neutral coloured life'.

Songs like 'Stargazer' are much more laid back, the sort of song you listen to whilst just wanting to unwind at the end of a long day.

The highlight of the album is 'You won't bring me down' which has great vocal melodies and guitar riffs throughout.

I would say it's not long before it's not only rock music fans from Ireland that can't get enough of Glyder, as their melodic tunes and easy going Rock n Roll vibe is likely to appeal to a wider audience.
