By any means Necessary

Disarm have been very busy over the past few months. The start of the year has seen a hectic gigging schedule and of course they are the support for the upcoming Robin Black tour in April. With all the live dates that they have squeezed in, it is beyond me how they found the time to write and record a demo like this.

Every track on this CD is incredibly heavy and I don't think that Disarm know how to play below a certain tempo or volume. Death sleaze punks!!! Never have I heard a band describe their sound better. It's not glam, it's too heavy, it's not punk, the music is too complex and it's not quite sleaze, it's something more serious. If you want a CD to listen whilst you wreck your living room this is the one for you.

Disarm have clearly found a recipe that works for them and don't stray away from the combination of pounding drums and bass lines, screeching guitars and husky, sleazy, in your face vocals. However this doesn't mean that their songs are boring or all sound the same, in fact boring is the last word I would use to describe the energy and sheer musical talent that is captured on this demo.

Whilst it is difficult for me to pick my favourite track of the demo, I would have to say that opening track 'By any means necessary' and the second track 'Faster, faster, kill' do stand out as being the most powerful.

Having two guitarist's (vocalist Brad and lead guitarist Jamie) certainly helps their sound and I am sure that this is an advantage to playing live as the fullness of the sound on songs such as 'Too much is never enough' is not lost.

When the final track 'Black Can Man' finishes, the feedback from the guitar fades away, the crashing cymbals stop ringing and Brad's vocals stop resonating in your brain you can't help but think that you want more.

I'll not bore you talking about the production - its flawless, that's all you need to know.

The four death sleaze punks from Sheffield have outdone themselves with this 5 track EP and I only hope that the strength of the EP and the energy that they have put into there UK tour ensures that they get the exposure and the recognition that they deserve.
