Oh my God this album is so
fantastic I have had to settle myself a bit before writing the review
and i still think it may seem a little over enthusiastic. But I don't
care. I have not been so completely taken aback by a record since Buckcherry's
debut release.
Danko Jones (both the name of the lead singer/guitarist and the band)
had been relatively ignored in the UK until they played Download in 2004.
Then people stood up and took notice. 'We Sweat Blood' is their 3rd album
release and in may opinion the best to date Apparently due to the touring
schedule this album had to be recorded more quickly than intended. There
is no evidence of this when listening to it as regards cutting corners.
It is frenzied in places but the bands whole style is the kind of hard
rock that's intended to blow up your stereo, so i don't think it was an
accident. It opens with the almighty 'Forget my Name' which is what Rock
N Roll should truly sound like. The production throughout the whole album
is flawless yet doesn't dampen the rawness of Danko's voice.
I have the US copy of this CD on which the 2nd track is the bonus 'Lovercall'
previously featured on 2002's 'Born a Lion' and as soon as the bass starts
in it you just know this is going to be good, and of course the good ole
dirty lyrics of 'lick it up, side to side' can only make it better. If
you get a chance go to www.dankojones.com and watch the video. It's fantastic!!
There are fourteen tracks on this album and when it's over you just want
to listen to it again. Don't ask me to compare it to anything, it's Hard
rock the way it's meant to be and to date I haven't heard anything like
it.
The whole album is brilliant and other highlights include 'Dance', 'Wait
a minute' and my personal favourite 'Hot damn woman'.
Danko Jones are currently touring their native Canada, supporting Nickelback
and their new album 'Sleep is the Enemy' is due out in February.
Danko Jones... the man... the band...the way all rock n roll should be.
9/10
