| Life is full of mysteries,
the Loch Ness Monster, the Bermuda Triangle and why a band like Platinum
Jar are not the world famous, stadium playing rock band that they deserve
to be!!
The four lads from Leichester have been blasting out their own carefully
blended style of melodic rock for the past 12 years and this 4 track EP
certainly demonstrates that they are accomplished musicians that know
what they are doing when it comes to writing catchy hard rock tracks.
One influence of the bands that you would have to be stone deaf to miss,
is Bon Jovi and it has to be said that frontman Jason's vocals are not
a million miles away from Jon's. Jason has a powerful voice that carries
across both the energy and the melody of Platinum Jar's songs.
Kicking off with 'Slow Road' that is a song that redefines the words Power
Ballad for the year 2006. The piano add's a nice touch and more depth
than is found in some of the newer rock bands today, it has a great chorus
(as do most of the tracks) and it immediately grabs you attention.
The guys pick up the pace for the next track 'Rock Chick' and the hammond
organ provides a 70's rock feel that's completely different to the style
of 'Slow Road'.
'Our lost youth' contains a bit of everything... soaring guitar solos,
yet more of that great hammond organ, great backing vocals and solid drumming
backing the whole thing up. The production (as with the rest of the EP)
is fantastic and it certainly does all the songs justice.
Finishing of with 'My favourite Drug', the band return to a softer style
and the acoustic guitar and piano providing the perfect background to
Jason's impassioned vocals.
Why a major label hasn't picked these guys up is beyond me, the mystery
of the Loch Ness Monster is easier to figure out!!!
9/10
