Being in the middle of promoting
Gemini Five's new album 'Black Anthem' Rod is very busy but he still managed
to find the time to answer some of HairMetalIreland's questions. So without
further ado Ladies & Gentlemen Rod Teilmann.
Hi Rod, Thanks for doing this interview. How are you feeling at the moment??
Hello, just fine. Thanks for asking :-) Im pretty busy at the moment.
We’re writing new material
since a wind of creativity came over us. Also the second video/singel
from our 2nd album Black:Anthem is on its way. In between all this we’re
also doing shows in Sweden and Finland. And on top Im studying film and
film editing.
What have Gemini Five got planned for 2006? Any Plans to tour the UK (especially
Northern Ireland, hint, hint) this year??
Unfortunally no Ireland or UK at this point :-( Dont get me wrong, we
wud love to go there, but
we are not in charge of the booking and demand of GEMINI FIVE.
Its here, YOU, the FANS can do alot with spreading the word of GEMINI
FIVE to webzines, friends, lovers etc...
We’re gonna release ‘Black:Anthem’ in The States this
spring, also through Cleopatra Records, which released 'Babylon Rockets’.
Hopefully we will follow up with a trip to USA to be promoting both albums
there. We have started to write music to our third album, so maybe, I repeat,
maybe You will see the light of a new album later this year. Alot of things
can happen with us this year, it only February.Maybe we will get to tour
all over Europe before 2006 ends.
Your latest album ‘Black Anthem’ has a slightly darker
edge to it, was this intentional or something that just kind of came about??
Anything in particular going on with the band that had an impact
on the final sound?
We had absolutely no intention to be doing another "Babylon Rockets"-sounding
album. Its already out there for everyone to be listening to when ever
you feel like. This time we filled in the blanks of what we thougt was
missing out regarding the production of BB. We're totally satisfied with
the sound and approach. This was what G5 was ment to be like when we started
in 2001.
From I have heard ‘Black Anthem’ can’t not
think of a single band currently that are close to Gemini Five’s
sound,how would you describe yourselves?
The perfect mix and missing link between Marilyn Manson and old school
Mötley’s ‘Shout at the Devil’-era.
One foot in the 80’s LA sound and the other in the present.
Flamboyant-In-Your-Face-Cum-Hard-Rock!!!!
All four members of GEMINI FIVE are handpicked!
SLIM PETE – drums, SNOOPY – guitar, TIN STAR – vox/guitar
and myself HOT ROD – bass.
Its about the diverse individuallity forming a whole picture in large.
What happened with the Beautiful Creatures (or are you sick of
explaining that)??
Yes, I am *smile*
I know You want to have some exclusive info regarding the matter, but
everything has already been said.

Is it true Rod that you were deported from the USA and were
not allowed back for 5 years???
Is not the full truth. I was deported from the States as a tourist. To
be entering America as
a professional musician, or what ever, with a working permit was never
a problem.
What are your favourite tracks of the new album??
Flesh:For:Fantasy
When The Body Speaks
Black:Anthem
These 3 songs are just the BEST we’ve ever done.’Flesh’
and ‘Body Speaks’ doesnt sound like any bands, past or present.
Great attitude, great vocals, tough sound yet melodic, modern yet classic.
Black:Anthem has that beautiful Scandinavian gothic touch to it like HIM
and THE 69EYES.
The above songs are simply master pieces.
There is a lot of good bands coming out of Sweden at the minute
(Crazy Lixx, Killer Smile etc)
do you think that yourself and Gemini Five have influenced them in anyway??
Yes, there’s a great new scene here. Never heard the bands you mentioned,
tho...
I guess we’ve influenced some bands here, since we are the best
band coming from Scandinavia
in years. One band, beside us, that definately did influence a brand new
generation of young sleaze kidzwas Crash Dïet. Unfortunally, they
are no more. Tragic and sad, since I learned to knowthe guys a bit from
our 3 shows together last year. They totally rocked and had the true and
real attitude. Dave’s music will live on, tho.
What bands influenced you whilst growing up?
Kiss made me wanna Rock ‘Roll and Mötley changed my whole idea
of the world.
I love(d) loads of bands like Ratt, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, King Diamond,
Venom, Stryper, AC/DC and so on.
But no other band has influenced me as a person as much as Mötley.
Whey had the looks and the vision and the background to back it up.
The Gemini Five website is very impressive, were you involved
in the design of it at all??
Thanks. I did it all from scratch. We wanted a colour full site, yet clean.
Also, I absolutely didnt wanna see any leopard skin, fire, dice, flames.
You know the typical boring rock’n roll cliches...
I guess we succeded. A clean, interesting and easy site to find what You’re
looking for,
without getting lost.
Can you ever imagine yourself doing anything else for a living??
Im not a performer/artist for a living.
Let me explain; - as i little boy a knew I was different. I dressed somewhat
different,
liked fast and dangerous things (I raced go-carts). Simple average things
very little attracted
me or my attention. I knew, even before I decided to be a performer, that
I would not
live me life as an average “Joe”. Music found me. Kiss opened
up my whole interest
in bands and image, but when I opened up Mötley’s Shout at
the Devil, I heard/saw my call.
Suddenly all pieces fell into place.
Kiss was just untouchable to me, but this was something else.
This was me.
Mötley Crüe was not just another visual band, this was real
and a state of mind.
Now reading ‘The Dirt’, or Kiss’ ‘Behind the ‘Mask’
and especially about some bandmembers
childhood and their dreams and visions, I can rely to most of their childhood
isolation and simply
be aware of that my approach towards bands and life in general is connected
to me as
a little boy being a dreamer and having a vision as well.
Its not about being superior, its about feeling and being extraordinary.
Im an artist simply cause its my call. No one does this better than me.
But there’s several performers/bands doing it as equal good.
Choosing this path means alot of times without money and shelter.
Im born in the morning, but not yesterday’s morning, I know
someday all this will be all over. Either You chose to quit
or there’s simply no demand for You and your band anymore.
To keep the sanity, You just haft to have a healthy back-up plan.
What that might be I dont know at this point...
Its just an different and rebellious attitude to life in general.
Its not about living the lifestyle if clichés...
Not to me.
Anything else you feel UK/Irish fans need to know ??
If You dont like us, we dont like You :-) – Babylon Rockets (2003)
