Crystal Pistol seem set to
take the world by storm. Their debut album is fast becoming a modern day
classic and was voted as one of the top 50 album's of 2005 by Classic
Rock. They are going to hit the UK in June, so we thought you all better
be prepared!!
Hi guys, do you want to take a minute to tell fans in the UK and
Ireland what you are up to at the minute??
Pinto: Trying to figure out what the hell happened last night.
You haven’t done much touring outside Canada is there any
reason for this and do you have any plans to tour the UK in the near future??
Pinto: Yes.
Greg: We’re trying to network with some UK promoters to help get
us over there……..Know any?
(since this interview was done Crystal Pistol have comfirmed their
UK dates, check them out here)
Your self titled debut was voted number 36 in Classic Rocks top
50 albums of 2005, how did you feel about this and has it helped promote
the album outside Canada??
Pinto: We were shocked. It feels great. It’s a great achievement
for us.
Greg: It’s fucking great.
What inspired you all whilst growing up to start a Rock N Roll
band and were you all in other bands before starting CP??
Pinto: For me, as a kid, being in a band was like being a super hero.
Now I know better.
Brian: I saw the movie "Rock & Roll High School" when I
was 10 or 11 and decided that I had to be in a band. I wanted to be Johnny
Ramone, right down to the bowl haircut.
Greg: I thought I’d get laid more…..Man was I wrong……………
What is the current rock music scene like in Canada at the minute?? Any
bands you can recommend to HMI??
Pinto: There’s lots of great bands but the industry sucks ass or
arse should I say.Brian: SHOCORE!
Greg: The Rod Iron Haulers……
What are your plans for the recording of the follow up album,
any plans to start recording in 2006??
Pinto: We’ve been writing a lot and are presently in pre
production stages.
If you could support any band on tour who would it be??
Pinto: Motorhead or Judas Priest I can’t decide.
Brian: G.B.H.!!!!
Greg: G n R or The Stones…………
As far as you kind of Sleazy rock n roll goes many people believe
that it is a thing of the past and belongs in the 1980’s, however
it seems that there is some sort of sleaze rock revival going on, will
you be helping lead the way with this revival??
Pinto: Rock and Roll is always relevant. Chuck Berry is as relevant now
as he was in the 50’s. We’re gonna keep doing what we do and
let the masses decide what the next trend is. We don’t care much
for trends.
Brian: I never thought of us as a "Sleaze" or "Glam"
band those are just labels other people have put on us. In fact could
someone please tell me what they mean???
Greg: We never went in to this trying to be anything but ourselves……When
we got copies of our European import CD I was pissed of by the “Forget
Velvet Revolver and Gun’s and Roses” on the packaging….First
of all we love those bands – Duff’s one of the reasons I started
playing bass! I mean I can see how a record company might want to peak
people’s interest but they shouldn’t have to make outlandish
comparisons…you can’t top an album like Appetite and we certainly
don’t want music fans thinking that we’re walking around believing
that shit.
As a fan I become frustrated when I talk to people about your
CD and they haven’t heard of it, what are your plans to promote
it in the UK??
Pinto: Well . . .doing this interview is a good start. We have every intention
of coming out there as soon as possible. We’re trying to convince
our label that a video might not be bad idea.
Greg; Yep I get pissed when people haven’t heard of us either –
especially when I’m trying to get free drinks!
Are you all living up the rock n roll lifestyle or is it not all
it’s made out to be??
Pinto: It’s terrible. We need some serious help.
Finally, anything all you want to add??
Pinto: Looking forward to coming out to UK. Thank you.
