Arcade- S/T (1993)
Line-up
Stephen Pearcy- Vocals
Fred Coury- Drums
Donny Syracuse- Guitar
Michael Andrews- Bass
Frankie Wilsex- guitar

Arcade were a sort of hair metal supergroup; being made of members from bands such as Ratt, Cinderella and the Sea Hags. Standout tracks were the album’s only hit Nothing To Lose, the ballad Cry No More, and the acoustic Mother Blues.
Despite the rock pedigree of those involved, this self titled debut came at a time when the musical climate was rapidly changing, and it was not a commercial success. Definitely one to get if you’re a fan of Ratt; or any classic 80’s/90’s metal.

Britny Fox- Bite Down Hard (1991)
Line-up-
Tommy Paris- vocals, guitar
Michael Kelly Smith- lead guitar
Billy Childs- Bass
Johnny Dee- drums

Bite Down Hard was the band’s third album, and first release with new singer Tommy Paris, following original frontman Dean Davidson’s departure. (He threw Michael Kelly Smith against a wall!)
By now Britny Fox had begun to move away from their glam image and sound, and this album is full of strong songs like Closer To Your Love (perhaps the highlight) and Six Guns Loaded- which Zakk Wylde actually plays on! Keeps that quiet, doesn’t he!
Due to the musical climate at the time, Bite Down Hard wasn’t particularly commercially successful, which is a shame, as it’s great!
This album had been out of print for years until very recently, so finding it should be no problem.

Candy -'Whatever Happened to Fun' (1985)
Line Up-
Kyle Vincent: Vocals
Gilby Clarke: Guitar
Ryan Roxie: Guitar
Jonathan Daniel: Bass
John Schubert: Drums

Candy are great - Kyle Vincent was their singer and Gilby Clarke was only 17 when he played with Candy. Kim Fowley was involved with the production of their demo prior to the release of 'Whatever happened to fun'. Kyle left the band and even though Candy toured with a new vocalist, it was not long before the band spilt and they went their separate ways. Guitarist Ryan Roxie went on to play with Alice Cooper and then formed Dad's porno mag. And of course Gilby played with GNR and became a recognised solo artist. Difficult to get but appears on Ebay every now and again, but you can try the complilation album 'Teenage Neon Jungle' which has some tracks from their Debut.

Cats in Boots - 'Kicked N Klawed' (1989)
Line-up-
Joel Ellis: lead vocals/harmonica
Takashi "Jam" O'Hashi: guitar
Yasuhiro "Butch" Hatae: bass
Randy Meers: drums

The half American, half Japanese line-up of Cats in Boots were really as glam as you can get. Had they hit the scene a few years earlier I have little doubt that they would have been huge. 'Kicked N Klawed' followed the debut EP release in 1988 Demostration: East Meets West. Some great hairmetal classic on this album such as 'Shotgun Sally' and 'Long, long way from home'. They had more of an impact in Japan than in Europe. You can get this CD second hand at amazon.com.

Crown Of Thorns- S/T (1993)
Line-up
Jean Beauvoir- Vocals
Tony Thompson
Micki Free
Michael Paige- bass

This band, led by former Plasmatic Jean Beauvoir, were at the centre of a huge label bidding war when they first formed. With tracks co-produced by Paul Stanley and wide critical acclaim, the album features strong songs such as Are You Ready?, The Healer and Secret Jesus.
This seemingly can only be gotten on import at the moment, and you will pay around 30 dollars for the privilege!

Danger Danger- Danger Danger (1989) New!!

Line - up
Ted Poley- vocals
Andy Timmons- guitar
Bruno Ravel- bass
Kasey Smith- Keyboards
Steve West- drums

This debut from New York’s Danger Danger was the band’s most successful album, selling 400,000 copies in the US alone. Although Danger Danger were still amongst the other also-rans of the 80’s metal scene, the album contains many standout tracks with slick choruses such as Naughty Naughty and the fantastic Bang Bang. And naturally there’s also the obligatory slow song in the form of Don’t Walk Away.
Yes, like a lot of the genre, this party rock is pretty cheesy, but who cares.

Dangerous Toys - Self Titled (1989)

Line-up-
Jason McMaster-Lead Vocals
Scott Dalhover-Lead Guitar
Danny Aaron-Rhythm Guitar, backing vocals
Mike Watson-Bass, backing vocals
Mark Geary-Drums

Dangerous Toys never really reached the heights of fame that other bands of the era did, but their Southern-influenced rock is still well worth a listen. This debut album contains great songs such as Scared and Take Me Drunk.
No highbrow, philosophical songs for these lads either- Sport’n A Woody being perhaps their worst song title, but if you like typical ‘cock rock’ lyrics, then it’s all good!
In Jason McMaster, Dangerous Toys also had a good vocalist. If you miss his singing, he is currently in band named Broken Teeth.

The Dogs D'amour - In the Dynamite Jet Saloon (1988)

Line-up-
Tyla: Guitar and Vocals
Jo Dog: Guitar
Steve James: Bass
Bam Bam: Drums

A forgotten gem of not only an album but an entire band in my opinion. Even though the big boys of glam and sleaze were focused around LA, they don't come much better than Wolverhampton's very own Dogs D'amour. The second of there albums contains the classics 'I don't want you to go' and 'How come it never rains'. All of the Dogs albums are excellent and of course Tyla's vocals are unforgettable. Can be tricky to get and you will probably have to pay quite a bit.

Electric Boys - Funk o Metal Carpet Ride (1989)
Line-up-
Conny Blomqvist: Vocals, guitar and sitar
Franco Santunione: Guitar
Andy Christell: Bass
Niclas Sigevall: Drums

I know that the majority of people will have heard of Electric Boys, but this album does not get the recognition that it deserves. This is partly because although the band did relatively well in their native Sweden and the rest of Europe, they failed to make much of an impact in the US. They are no longer together but all three of their albums have recently been re-issued.

Faster Pussycat - Whipped (1992)

Line-up-
Taime Downe - vocals
Brent Muscat - guitar, sitar and vocals
Greg Steele - guitar, keyboards, mandolin and vocals
Eric Stacy - bass and vocals
Brett Bradshaw - drums, percussion and vocals

Whipped, probably due to the fact that it was released slap-bang in the middle of the grunge explosion, didn’t do as well as Faster Pussycat’s previous releases Wake Me When It’s Over and their self-titled debut.
It’s a shame, because this is a great album. There are fun, ‘party’ songs such as Jack The Bastard and the hilarious Big Dictionary, and the excellent ballad Friends.
Nonstop To Nowhere is an absolutely amazing song, and really should have provided the band with a huge hit. Also great is Mr Lovedog, a tribute to Mother Love Bone’s Andrew Wood.
Whipped is available on Amazon and Ebay cheaply. Too cheap for how good this album is.

Girl - Sheer Greed (1980)
Line-up -
Phil Lewis: Vocals
Phil Cohen: Guitar
Gerry Laffy: Guitar
Simon Laffy: Bass
Dave Gaynor: Drums

These guys where thought to be the next big thing and there reputation as Rocks new bad boys preceded them where ever they went. Formed in 1978, 'Sheer Greed' was their Debut Album and widely considered to be a classic. Hard to find now however in 2001 an Anthology called 'My Number' was released, featuring the some of the highlights from the album. The band split in 1982, with Phil Lewis going on to front LA Guns and Phil Cohen joining Def Leppard.

Jetboy - Damned Nation (1990)
Line-up-
Mickey Finn - vocals and harmonica
Fernie Rod - guitar and backing vocals
Billy Rowe - guitar and backing vocals
Sam Yaffa - bass, guitar and backing vocals
Ron Tostenson - drums and backing vocals

This was the San Francisco band’s second, and final album. Jetboy perhaps got lumped in with some of the poorer bands at the end of the hair-metal scene, despite the high standard of some songs on Damned Nation such as Evil and the ballad Too Late.
Vocalist Mickey Finn sported a Mohawk, so the band offered something a little different, hair-wise at least! Damned Nation is a worthy addition to any fan of the ‘80’s LA scene record collection.
Easy to find, and a compilation CD of the band’s albums called Day In The Glamorous Life has also recently been released if you want to hear more.

Johnny Crash- Neighbourhood Threat (1990)
Line-up
Vicki James Wright - vocals
August Worchell - guitar and vocals
Christopher Stewart - guitar and vocals
Andy Rogers - bass
"Punkee" Stephen Adamo – drums

With a sound likened to AC/DC, Johnny Crash’s future looked promising when they toured with the Crue during the Dr Feelgood tour. MTV even played the album’s hit Hey Kid. Songs like No Bones About It and Thrill Of The Kill were catchy and testosterone-driven, but the album failed to sell very well. Matt Sorum and Dizzy Reed were in later line-ups of Johnny Crash, but a second record never materialised.

Junkyard-Self Titled (1989)
Line-up-
David Roach - vocals and percussion
Chris Gates - guitar
Brian Baker - guitar
Clay Anthony - bass
Patrick Michael Muzingo - drums and percussion

A few of this band’s previous members had been in punk bands before joining Junkyard, and so didn’t sound like a typical glam band. A mixture of metal and Southern Rock, this debut contained classic rock tunes like Blooze, Texas and Hollywood, amongst slower songs such as the wistful Simple Man.
In the typical, incestuous, hairmetal way, the band folded and its members went on to form new bands, but released a live album called Shut Up We’re Tryin’ To Practice! in 2000.
Junkyard is easy to buy online.

Kik Tracee- No Rules(1991) NEW!!

Line-up
Stephen Shareaux - vocals
Michael Marquis - guitar and background vocals
Gregory Hex - guitar and background vocals
Rob Grad - bass and background vocals
Johnny Douglas - drums, percussion and background vocals

Described by Slaughter’s Dana Strum as a cross between The Cult and Guns N’ Roses, this band from LA, like so many, could have been bigger had they released this in the ‘80’s. This melodic, commercial metal album had stand out tracks such as Trash City and the heavier Soul Shaker… and even a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Mrs Robinson!
This was actually the band’s only full length release. Like so many they suffered from a changing metal scene, and while an EP was released, a second album never saw the light of day.

Motley Crue - New Tattoo (2000)
Line-up-
Vince Neil- vocals
Mick Mars- guitar
Nikki Sixx- bass
Randy Castillo- drums

Yes, it’s only from six years ago, but I’d argue that this album is still forgotten. Okay, so it’s not exactly Shout At The Devil, but the relative mauling it received at the hands of the critics wasn’t entirely justified. The title track is a gorgeous ballad, and although some of the lyrics can lean towards the cheesy side, it’s still good fun to listen to. Nearly every song has a decent chorus, and tracks like Hollywood Ending and Fake are actually very good.
I would say, switch your brain off for a while and just enjoy.

Vince Neil - Exposed (1993)
Line-up-
Vince Neil - vocals
Steve Stevens - all guitar and bass
Dave Marshall - guitar
Robbie Crane - bass
Vik Foxx - drums and percussion

Vince’s solo work was a relative commercial failure, and on the strength of this album, I feel that’s unfair.
In a way, Exposed almost picks up where Motley Crue’s Dr Feelgood left off. The songs have the same glossy, ‘80’s rock feel, and tracks such as Look In Her Eyes and Fine, Fine Wine are as good as anything off Feelgood, in my opinion.
Standout songs would be Sister Of Pain and the ballad Can’t Change Me. Vince’s voice sounds very good on Exposed; perhaps the best it ever has done.
Sadly the follow up to this album, Carved In Stone, is a dreadful record, but for anyone into classic late ’80’s/early ‘90’s poppy, hard rock, you could do a lot worse than buying Exposed.
Easy to get on Amazon and most other music sites.

Pretty Boy Floyd - Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz (1989)
Line -up
Steve Sex Summers - vocals
Kristy Krash Majors - guitar
Vinnie Chas - bass
Kari Kane - drums

Good ole PBF, when you need to get in the mood for a party you can rely on this album to cheer you up. Musically they maybe weren't the most talented of the LA stars and yes at times Steve's vocals are a little grating, however with songs like 'Rock N Roll (is gonna set the night on fire)' and '48 hours' you can forgive them for this. A fun band that know what Rock N Roll is all about.
The Poor - Who Cares (1994)
Line-up
Anthony Skene (vocals),
Julian Grynglas (guitar),
Matt Whitby (bass),
James Young (drums).

These four Aussie's came up trumps with this almighty album. All 11 eleven songs are about either, women, drinking or fighting!!! Proper Rock N Roll. Highlights are 'Dirty Money' 'Hair of the dog' and the fantastic 'More wine waiter please'! Success seemed to just miss these guys and they spent a good part of the early 90's touring heavily in the US and their native Austrailia. No one has heard anything about them in years! This CD is about £2 on amazon.co.uk so there really is no excuse not to own it.
Roxx Gang - Things You've never done before (1988)
Line-up-
Kevin Steele: vocals
Jeff Taylor: guitar
Wade Hays: guitar
Roby "Strychnine" Strine: bass
David James Blackshire: drums

Roxx Gang are another band that suffered due to simply being a few years too late. Their debut album 'Things you've never done before' is a sleaze rock classic. 'Scratch my back' and 'No easy way out' were to the two singles released from the album and are stand out tracks along with 'Race with the devil'. The band spilt in 1991, however front man Kevin Steele formed another line-up which featured Stacey Blades (who now plays with LA Guns). They went on to release 5 more albums, however none of them have the same appeal as the debut. Available from amazon.

Roxy Blue - Want Some? (1992)
Line-up-
Todd Poole: Vocals/guitar
Sid "Boogie" Fletcher: Guitar
Josh Weil: Bass
Scotty T: Drums

Discovered by Warrant frontman Jani Lane, Roxy Blue satyed together long enough to record one album and then spilt up, never to be heard of again. The album was released in 1992, so perhaps, the music world, obsessed with the whole Seattle scene at this time, neglected this album. Many catchy tunes on this such as 'Sister, sister' and the hard rockin 'Main Attraction'. You shouldn't have any bother picking this CD up on Amazon.com second hand.

Saigon Kick - Self Titled(1991) New!!!
Line-up
Matt Kramer - vocals
Jason Bieler - guitar
Tom DeFile - bass
Phil Varone – drums

This debut album was recorded in a mere eleven days and received some acclaim due to tracks like New World, Colors and Love Of God. They combined harmonies with big riffs and catchy choruses, yet never gained much success with this album, or follow-ups like The Lizard. Always eclectic (one song featured a kazoo solo), they released a Greatest Hits in 2000 and still tour sporadically.

Salty Dog - Every Dog has it's day. (1990)
Line-up-
Jimmi Bleacher - vocals, guitar
Pete Reeven - guitar, banjo
Michael Hannon - bass
Khurt Maier - drums

The one and only album from LA's Salty Dog. MAde up of ex-members of Mickey Ratt, Ruby Slippers and Doll the band were formed in 1986. The band had a little success on MTV with 'Lonesome Fool' from the album. You will pay for this one, it's currently about $75 on amazon.com.
Submitted on HMI's forum by... Goatlord- 'Being a huge Zeppelin fan and the huge void they left. Salty dog cam along with this sleazy piece of zeppelinesque Rock. They disappeared in what was at the time a complete deluge of bands that really didn't cut it. It is a firm favorite here at the lair'.
The Scream - Let it Scream (1991)
Line-up-
John Corabi - vocals and guitar
Bruce Bouillet - guitar
John Alderete - bass and vocals
Walt Woodward III - drums, percussion and vocals

John Corabi has been in some great bands and The Scream are a fantastic hard rock act that unfortunately spilt up after releasing only one album. Whether its the heavy 'Outlaw' the more bluesy 'Loves got a hold on me' or 'Man in the Moon' every track is a classic. Corabi's vocals are as raw as ever and the big guitar riffs make this a true 80's classic.
Sea Hags- Self-titled (1989)
Line-up-
Ron Yocum: vocals/ guitar
Frank Wilsey: guitar
Chris Schlosshardt: bass
Adam Maples: drums

Formed in 1985 in San Francisco, the Sea Hags got off to a promising start in their career when famed producer Mike Clink (Appetite For Destruction) worked with them on their only self-titled release in 1989.
Songs such as Someday and Back To The Grind were pure sleaze-rock, but like many young bands, they were torn apart amidst rumours of alcoholism and drug abuse; rumours that proved correct when bassist Schlosshardt died of a drugs overdose in 1991.
The other members went onto join bands with the likes of Stephen Pearcy, amongst other projects.
This album can be found quite cheaply used on Amazon.

Shotgun Messiah - Second Coming (1991)

Line-up-
Tim Skold: vocals
Harry Cody: guitar
Bobby Lycon: bass
Stixx: drums

The Swedish band Shotgun Messiah released two full length albums and an EP before they lost their rhythm section and 're-invented' themselves as a industrial monster with 'Violent New Breed'. As a result some people tend forget that they were at one time a great 80's glam band. 'Second Coming' was their second album and contains great tracks such as, 'Sexdrugsrockn'roll' and 'Nobodys Home'.
Easy enough to find on amazon.

Slaughter- Stick It To Ya (1990) New!!

Line - up:Mark Slaughter - vocals, guitar and keyboards
Tim Kelly - lead guitar and vocals
Dana Strum - bass and vocals
Blas Elias - drums, percussion and vocals

It’s fair to say that Slaughter were one of the more derided bands of the hair metal scene, but some of their music cannot be faulted, in particular this, their debut album from 1990.
Released late into the hair metal era, Slaughter wouldn’t win any prizes for originality, but the songs are classic, glossy-sounding ‘80’s metal- standout tracks Up All Night and power ballad Fly To The Angels alone make this album worth getting, and Stick It To Ya would make a worthy addition to any hair metal CD collection.

Spiders and Snakes - London Daze (2000)
Line-up-
Lizzie Grey- vocals/ lead guitar
Timothy Jay- Drums
Leigh Lawson- Bass
Doug E.Sex- rhythm guitar

Obviously Lizzie Grey is mainly famous for having been in bands with the likes of Nikki Sixx and Blackie Lawless, and for writing Public Enemy #1. That song is included on this collection of new songs and rarities from Lizzie’s London days.
It’s never going to change the face of music, but songs like Nonstop Rock and Party In Hollywood are good, dumb fun, and this album is worth a listen if you feel like hearing something that is purely about having a good time and being stupid. Don’t take it too seriously, and there’s no reason why you won’t enjoy it!

Spread Eagle - Self Titled (1990)
Line-up-
Ray West: Vocals
Paul Dibartolo: Guitar
Rob DeLuca: Bass
Tommi Galo: Drums

These four guys from New York play sleaze rock in it's truest and purest form, sharp, hard guitars and lyrics dripping with innuendo in songs like 'Back on the bitch' and 'Scratch like a cat'. Spread Eagle released one more album before parting in 1993.
Their debut was re-released in 2006 so it is now easy enough to pick up this classic.
Kerri
The Throbs- The Language of Thieves and Vagabonds (1991)
Line-up-
Ronnie Sweetheart: vocals
Roger Ericson: guitar
Danny Nordahl: bass
Ronnie Magri: drums

This sleazy New York quartet featured ex-members of Stiv Bators and even Ginger was in the band for a spell after leaving The Quireboys.
With no demo or manager, the band made enough of a buzz in NYC to attract the attention of producer Bob Ezrin.
Their song Come Down Sister received heavy rotation on Headbanger’s Ball, but the band split for an unknown reason in 1991.
Available on Amazon for a measly 75 cents!
Tigertailz- Wazbones (1995) New!!
Line-up
Kim Hooker - vocals
Cy Danaher - guitar and backing vocals
Pepsi Tate - bass and backing vocals
Andy Skinner - drums and backing vocals

This album was only released in ’95, having been recorded in 1993 following several line-up changes. After record company wrangles, it was initially released under the band name Wazbones instead of Tigertailz.
The strongest tracks were Dirty Needles and Perish, and the album featured the Welsh glamsters trademark catchy choruses, but between band members changing and the issue with the record company, Tigertailz seemed to fade away. Generally regarded as being weaker than previous albums Young And Crazy and Bezerk.
Prices on this album vary- anywhere from a fiver to around thirty pounds!

Trash Brats - Songs in the Key of U (2001)
Line-up-
Brian O’Blivion- vocals
Ricky Rat- guitar
Craig Cashew- Drums

Trash Brats have been described as “too punk for rock and too rock for punk.” From Detroit, Songs In The Key Of F U is their eleventh release, and boasts over twenty tracks, including Teen Suicide Story and You Hate Me And I Hate You.
The band have been together since the late ’80’s and have an impressive back catalogue, but you’ll have to keep looking on Ebay for this one…

Tyketto - Strength In Numbers (1993)
Line-up-
Danny Vaughn - Vocals/guitar
Brooke St James - Guitar
Jimi Kennedy - Bass
Michael Clayton - Drums

You may wonder why we have included 'Strength in Numbers' in this and not Tyketto's debut 'Don't come easy'... well they are both excellent albums and Tyketto overall do not get the recognition they deserve, however 'Don't come easy' contains the big hit 'Forever Young' and therefore receives more attention. 'Strength in numbers' in my opinion has better tracks. For example 'Rescue me' 'End of Summer days' and 'Meet me in the night'. Available from Amazon.
Kerri

Waysted- Save Your Prayers (1986) New!!
Danny Vaughn- Vocals
Paul Chapman- Guitar
Pete Way - Bass
John Diteodoro – Drums

This is generally seen as Waysted’s finest release, and the band of course had a huge asset in vocalist Danny Vaughn. With big vocal melodies and infectious hooks, it is a solid hard rock album. From the poppy Black And Blue, the epic Heroes Die Young, and the power ballad So Long, every song is great.
Well written and performed, this album was slightly and wrongly overlooked.
Available on Ebay for around a tenner.

Widowmaker - Blood and Bullets (1993)
Line-up-
Dee Snider: Vocals
Al Pitrelli: Guitar
Marc Russell: Bass
Joe Franko: Drums

With Twisted Sister's Dee Snider on vocals and Danger, Danger guitarist Al Pitrelli in the line up, you would expect nothing less than a hard hitting record such as 'Blood and Bullets' which was the first Widowmaker record. Contains tracks such as 'Evil' and 'We are the dead' which are heavier than anything Dee did with Twisted Sister. Available on amazon.com.
Kerri
Winger- Pull (1993) New!!
Line-up
Kip Winger - vocals, bass, guitar and keyboards
Reb Beach - guitar and background vocals
Rod Morgenstein - drums, percussion and background vocals

While Pull rocked just as hard as Winger’s previous albums, Winger were a much maligned band as the grunge explosion took hold, and the album undoubtedly suffered from this, along with lack of play and promotion.
This was the band’s heaviest and strongest release musically, with songs such as In My Veins and The Lucky One helping them move away from the ‘cheesy’ tag that previous hit Miles Away had given them.
Winger broke up the same year as Pull’s release. This album is easy to find and will only cost a few quid.

Y & T - Earthshaker (1981)
Line-up-
Dave Meniketti: Vocals/Guitar
Joey Alves: Guitar
Phil Kennemore: Bass
Leonard Haze: Drums

Formed in San Francisco in the late 70's, their first release of the 80's took the critics and fans alike by storm and became the standard by which all further releases by the band would be judged. Contains perhaps the most well known Y & T song 'Dirty Girl' and also the classic 'I believe in you'. Although the band have been together now for around 30 years it's not only 'Earthshaker' that's a forgotten gem, it's the band themselves. You shouldn't have any problem finding this as it was re-mastered in 2002.
