Bio - The tranquil city of York has never been regarded as a hotbed of rock music. That is all set to change with the advent of Kid Ego. With a distinct sound rooted in the rock and punk scene of the late 70’s and early 80’s, the five-piece have blown local audiences away with a series of blistering live shows. They formed in 2004 when singer-songwriter Zakk Taylor hooked up with Nikki Sixx look-alike Chris Rooke at the Leeds festival. The line-up was completed with the addition of guitarists Phil Morfitt and Henry “Birdy” Bird, and drummer Nikk Miller, whose uncle also drummed, for cult punk band the UK Subs. With a combination of strident, chugging riffs, and screeching, soaring vocals Kid Ego have an infectious, energetic vibe set aside from their contemporaries. Songs such as “Lady Conniver” and the awesome “Till I Die” already sound like well-established classics. Their rapid rise has seen them work with Leeds-based producer Will Jackson, who has collaborated with the Kaiser Chiefs and The Music, and record a video for their pulsating anthem “Flirtin' With Suicide”. A slot on the bill for 'Rock in The Castle' in Scarborough, next to their own heroes The Wildhearts, confirmed their pedigree. Kid Ego have built on their burgeoning local reputation by unleashing their searing sound nationwide. The highly successful 15-date “Rock Revolution” tour began in Birmingham on the 22nd October and saw their full-throttle performance play in venues from Carlisle to London. Support was from York rock stable-mates Harken. Such
an intensive schedule would normally prove daunting for such a young
band, but Zakk explains why they’re taking it all comfortably
in their stride, “Our music is in our blood. Its what we live
for. Signing to our Management and Record Company was awesome, but the
real deal is performing dirty, sleazy rock and partying with true Rock
fans everywhere.” With an EP due out soon and plans to tour the
US in early 2006, rock fans across the pond will be among those to hear
what woke York from it’s slumber. |
